McDonald’s Sustainability Report 2025 EN DigitalBook
20/51

We are working to make our restaurants more sustainable.Restaurants’ existing equipment, including air-condi-tioners, freezers, and refrigerators, are replaced sys-tematically with models that come with higher energy consumption efficiency (energy-saving equipment). In 2025, energy-efficient air-conditioners, freezers, and refrigerators, which are expected to reduce ener-gy consumption by approximately 40% compared to conventional models, were installed at approximately 130 restaurants. We have implemented a pilot-phase automated de-mand control system that monitors electricity demand in real time and automatically controls air-conditioning systems. This initiative reduces electricity consumption while maintaining a comfortable in-store environment.Restaurant staff implements the inspection and cleaning of equipment according to a set schedule. The use of a digitalized, systematized tool allows any of the restaurant staff to perform maintenance and contributes to the maintenance of equipment efficiency and reduction of energy waste.● Planned Replacement of Energy-Efficient Equipment● Installation of Demand Monitoring Device●Planned Maintenance SystemCO₂ Storage*2Our PlanetMcDonald’s Sustainability Report 202520Installation of EV quick chargersIntroduction of EVsDecarbonizationEnergy Conservation InitiativesLogistics EfficiencyUse of Domestic Wood in Restaurant Buildings*1 127 wooden-structure restaurants; 259 restaurants using wooden louvers*2 Equivalent to the annual CO₂ emissions of 1,434 householdsAs part of our efforts to reduce energy consumption used in transporting ingre-dients and materials, we are working to standardize and improve the efficiency of delivery operations across the supply chain. In support of the purpose of the “Wood Change” initiative promoted by the Forestry Agency, in February 2023, McDonald’s Ja-pan signed the “Agreement on Promoting the Use of Timber in Buildings,” in collabora-tion with the Ministry of Agriculture, For-estry and Fisheries. Under this agreement, we were committed to designing restau-rants using a minimum amount of local timber with a total volume of 5,550 m³ over three years.By the end of 2025, the total volume of local timber used in our restaurants reached 5,566 m³, which corresponds to 5,353 tons of CO₂ stored. We will continue to actively utilize locally sourced timber to contribute to the reduction of CO₂ emissions.Number of restaurants built with domestic wood*1We are switching to electric vehicles with low CO₂ emissions to deliver ordered items.EV quick chargers are installed at selected locations. Renew-able energy is used for charging, achieving net zero CO₂ emissions. We will continue to work on our infrastructure to ensure readiness for the growth of electric cars that produce fewer CO₂ emissions.Jobs, Inclusion & EmpowermentDataIntroductionCommunity ConnectionFood Quality & Sourcing3865,353t-CO2
